Fostering children’s love of learning since 2001

The best care possible…

At Little Moo Moo’s Playschool we have been providing a quality childcare service since 2001. We are committed to helping your child learn and practice the skills he or she needs in order to cope with the challenges of today’s world; we are committed to nurturing your child’s love of learning, and to make education a fun, relevant activity for your child.

We aim to provide high standard care for your child in a safe & Healthy Environment. We operate within the regulations set out by Tusla Child and Family Agency and The National Standards for Pre-Schools (2010). Our Policies & Procedures are in place to protect your child.

In a beautiful setting…

Little Moo-Moos is a purpose-built playschool on Skephubble Farm – a family-run dairy farm, where beautiful surrounding countryside; cows feeding their calves; ducks waddling to the pond and chickens clucking, are all part of the sights and sounds of everyday life… where Cailín the sheepdog and JJ the horse keep a careful eye over everything.

Little Moo-Moos is registered with  Tusla – Child and Family Agency and operate according to the National Childcare Regulations, the National Standards for Pre-School Services and Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children (PDF – 2011)

Free pre-school years

We are delighted to participate in the Early Childhood Care & Education Scheme (ECCE). It is included in our Part Time Service, ie.a minimum 4-or-5-hour-daily for 5-days-a-week and 38 weeks per year. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs pays a weekly capitation for each child for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week for 38 weeks per year. The balance is paid by the parents.

Our teacher-to-child ratio is 1:8. More information can be found here.

Our Team

We are very proud of our dedicated, caring, highly qualified, & experienced Early Years Educators. They create a healthy & happy, environment and some of them have been with us since we first opened our doors in 2001!

They also encourage and support each other and up-skill on a regular basis to equip themselves to support each individual child in reaching their full  potential.

Our Team, Students & Therapists, are Garda vetted and have attended training on child protection and welfare. They are qualified in First Aid to a QQI Standard, and are trained in the use of Defibrillators, which we have on our premises.

Our Curriculum

We offer a play-based, emergent and Montessori Curriculum, and we are dedicated to the “whole” child. Environmental education is integrated into our play based Montessori Emergent Curriculum underpinned by Aistear the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Síolta National Quality Programme, which addresses each child’s individual needs.

It is fitting that Síolta means ‘seed’, and Aistear means ‘journey’.

Your child’s journey with us will take them through a learning adventure where they will grow confident and feel valued; they will share their experiences and make sense of the world.

Little Moo-Moos is designed to foster learning through the exploration and discovery of the fields, farm & animals that are outside or within walking distance of our classroom door.

Our curriculum is based on nature and outdoors, monthly themes and children’s interests… exploring, discovering, caring… learning!

Little Moo Moo’s recognises that the establishment of daily routines is essential for all young children in our care. We strive to provide a programme of activities which encourage the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, creative and language development and of the children who attend the service.

Our Mission Statement

At Little Moo Moo’s our ethos and practice values diversity and promotes equality.

We aim to deliver quality care, play and Montessori curriculums which address children’s well-being, identity and belonging, communication and exploring and thinking, along the principles of Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework We aim to make Little Moo Moo’s accessible to all members of the community, regardless of race, gender, family status, age, disability, or religious belief.

Our aim: to have fun!

…to provide the most natural and life-enhancing environment for children to be happy and to feel secure. This promotes optimal development for children.

…to identify children’s strengths and to use this as a baseline for empowering children to manage in their social world; to meet their full potential; be self-confident, self-sufficient and feel they belong.

We constantly re-evaluate and re-assess the children on their journey through the year and each step is well documented and shared with parents. We actively encourage parental involvement in the child’s development.

The voice of a child is heard, respected and contributes to our curriculum.

We believe in ensuring that children who attend our service have the opportunity to experience:

  • Spontaneous expression
  • Esteem as an individual
  • Dignity and autonomy
  • Self confidence
  • Zest in learning
  • A stable learning and caring environment
  • Sociability, friendship, co-operation and respect of others

Aistear and Síolta both emphasise the importance of quality interactions to children’s holistic development. Little Moo Moos employs qualified, experienced and competent staff who understand this principle and are able to meet all the needs of the children.

Our environment is planned and well-organised in a way that suits the different needs of individual children, while keeping in mind the importance of Safety and Hygiene.

We believe that parents are the first and most important educators of young children. Parents are actively welcomed at Little Moo Moo’s at all times.

We endeavour to share information and communicate with parents directly, in order to give feedback at the end of each day and to ensure that they are made aware of on-going developments in policies and procedures.

Children thrive at Little Moo-Moos!
